According to an article by Dell, there has been a significant security breach where a hacker has allegedly obtained sensitive data from around 49 million customers.

The computer manufacturer in the United States has begun to issue data breach alerts to customers who were affected by the event. The notices outline how a hacker was able to gain unauthorized access to an online portal where customer purchase details were stored on the company’s website.

Dell claims that the exposure does not pose a “major threat to our clients”.

Based on the data breach notification from Dell, it appears that the breach led to the theft of personal data exclusively, without any impact on financial information. The stolen data consists of names, physical addresses, and hardware and order details from the company’s systems.

According to the company, they quickly put into action their incident response protocols, initiated an investigation, implemented measures to contain the incident, and informed the authorities. They also mentioned that an external forensic company has been hired to look into the issue and that they will closely oversee the situation.

According to Dell’s email, they reassured their customers that the type of information involved did not pose a significant risk.

Warning from Dell because database sale reported

According to a report from Daily Dark Web in April, a significant security breach was disclosed. A threat actor has asserted to have a database for sale that supposedly contains 49 million customer records from Dell. This database is said to consist of information on Dell systems bought during the years 2017 to 2024, making it a complete collection of customer data.

The information, which is reported to have been obtained recently and obtained from Dell servers, comprises important personal and business data like complete names, addresses, cities, states, zip codes, countries, 7-digit service tags, shipment dates, warranty plans, monitor serial numbers, customer numbers, and order numbers from Dell.

According to the threat actor, they have sole possession of this data, which includes a significant amount of information. Out of the records, around 7 million pertain to individual or personal transactions, while 11 million are associated with consumer segment businesses. The remaining records involve enterprises, partners, schools, or unidentified entities.
